The handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Ohmichi Takuma, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia, representing Japan; Mr. Heri Widyatmoko, Head of Kesamben District; Mr. Asmanto, Head of Pagergunung Village; Ms. Anita Romadhoni, Finance Officer and Internal Control of the Daya Pertiwi Foundation; and Mr. Glenn Almiro, Manager of the Clean Water Department of PT. Yamaha Motor Nuansa Indonesia, representing Indonesia.
The project was signed in March 2023 between the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia and the Daya Pertiwi Foundation and has been completed.
Prior to the project's implementation, many Pagergunung villagers, who lived almost entirely on their own, were unable to regularly purchase safe mineral water due to its high cost. This forced residents to use unhygienic water from nearby canals for their daily needs, leading many villagers to suffer from diarrhea, a condition believed to be caused by the use of contaminated water.
To remedy this situation, through this project, in collaboration with Yamaha Motor, the Daya Pertiwi Foundation utilized approximately one billion rupiah in funding provided by the Japanese Government. This fund supported the construction of a water purification facility and technical training related to its management and operation. As a result, more than 11,000 residents, including residents from surrounding villages, have access to clean, safe water. This has resulted in a 55 percent reduction in diarrhea cases, significantly improving the health and environmental conditions of the local community.
